Aims
The aims of the study:
- To collaborate with the teachers of the project schools to develop appropriate curriculum designs (which includes both the pedagogical design and assessment instruments) that teachers can use in the teaching of the subjects Mathematics, Chinese, English and General Studies to enhance students’ information literacy (IL), beginning at Primary four (Mathematics, Chinese and General Studies) and five (English) , and advancing progressively to all the levels from P.4 to 6 in three years;
- To evaluate the impact of the e-learning curriculum specially designed with embedded elements of IL on students’ IL outcomes.
- To identify the changes in teachers’ pedagogical beliefs and practices, if any, through their involvement in the e-learning pilot.
- To identify the difficulties encountered by teachers in implementing the pilot, their perception of the importance of IL in the curriculum, the effectiveness of schools’ innovation implementation strategy, and their perceived needs for professional development and support in implementing the pilot.
- To identify if specific types of students’ elearning engagement is correlated with the higher learning gains in students’ IL outcomes.
- To document the implementation strategies used by the two core pilot schools in the project, the extent to which these strategies have been executed and the perceived effectiveness of these strategies. This will contribute to a better understanding of school level change management and leadership strategies for effective implementation of e-learning for IL enhancement in schools.
- To find out whether and how the sharing events and professional development activities organized by the pilot project contribute to changes in pedagogical and assessment practice of teachers in the satellites schools, their perception of the importance of IL in the curriculum, and the usefulness of the pilot project to them.
